Put simple they are *usually* different strands of the Herpes Simplex Virus. Usually HP-1 for oral and HP-2 strain for genital.
Though it is possible to have the HP-1 strain on the genitals.
So no, you do not have antibodies to fight off genital herpes, because the same virus can be spread to another area of your body. Unfortunate, but can be controlled easily. About 20% of the population has it/them.
No, unfortunately you don’t. This is because more than one virus causes herpes: Herpes simplex I (which mostly causes oral infection and sometimes genital) and Herpes simplex II (which causes genital) are two different viruses.
What this does mean and you are partly correct, is that you cannot get genital herpes from someone who has a Herpes Simplex I genital infection. But if that person has a genital infection caused by Herpes Simplex II, then you are susceptible to it.

genital herpes never go away. They have not found a cure for it yet
oral herpes go away. There is medicine for that.

so yes people can pretty much have both.
so if your saying you have genital herps, sorry but they are in fact for life. But you can get antibiotic to clear up break outs. And they don’t leave scars
hope this helped !
The main difference is their primary site of infection preferences.
Oral herpes likes to infect the mouth and genital herpes usually likes to live on the genitals, but both types of herpes come from the same virus. HSV1 (oral herpes) can affect the genitals and HSV2 (genital herpes) can but doesn’t commonly affect the mouth.
You can get both types of herpes, one doesn’t always give you immunity towards getting the other. If you all ready have one type of herpes that should give you immunity towards getting that same type any where else.
HSV1+ and HSV2+
